Consistently ranked the number one public university in the country, Cal may be better known as a counter-culture antiwar "far left" hippie paradise.
While the city of Berkeley vibes this in many ways (lots of panhandlers, People's Park, etc), most Cal students live more like mainstream over-achieving college students: working hard, playing hard, sleeping little - and getting their bear on when the cardinal are in town :)
The campus is large, makes for a great walk, and adjoins with the Telegraph city center.
